I have always enjoyed undergoing building projects of my own. I have great pleasure when I can look back at the finished item and say to myself that I completed the task from start to finish. There is always one problem that I face. That is finding the right building merchants for the job! There are literally hundreds of local merchants around and none of them seem to price very competitively. This is ultra-annoying to someone like myself which is simply trying to make a few extra pennies on the side!
I started constructing my own building projects when I was about 16 years old when I decided that the fence at home needed to be replaced. I phoned up 5 different fencing suppliers in the local area in the hope that someone would take me seriously and give me a keen price! Not one of the fencing merchants gave me a keen price.
They were prepared to charge me £3.50 plus delivery for one fence rail when a company 30 miles away would do the exact same rail for £2.90 including delivery. I instantly began to realise that there are a lot of people in the world that are prepared to rip you off totally. I telephoned and made an order for 50 fencing rails and posts from the supplier 30 miles away and they took payment over the phone. Another issue with the local suppliers is that they refused to take payment over the phone for the products and instead I had to go into the shop! It would be ok if I could drive but at the time I was only 16 years old!It took me one week to construct the fence at the rear of my house. It consisted of a straight fence with 30 rails and 15 posts. The other materials that I ordered at this particular time had to go into storage as I accidently miscounted the quantity of fence I required!
