A Quick and Simple Guide to Garden Fencing...

Garden Fencing is a common feature in gardens around the UK, it clearly shows the boundaries of ones home. Garden fencing is also used to make our homes more secure with most home owners opting for garden fencing which is at least 6’ tall. Garden fencing is also used to make our homes and gardens more private, creating a barrier between your home and the outside world.

There are many different types of garden fence panels available and choosing the right one for your garden can make the world of different when it comes to the style of your garden and its shape. Most fence panels come in heights of 3’, 4’, 5’ and 6’. Choosing the right height fence is all down to personal choice but if you require garden fencing above the height of 6’ planning permission is required.

When trying to decide what type of garden fencing you would like it is important to consider the maintenance required.

There are two basic types of fence panel you can choose from; pressure treated and dip treated.

Dip treated fence panels have been painted with a special water based treatment. It is applied to the fence panels in the factories where it is built and protects the panel when it is in storage and when it is in transit. A dip treated fence panel will need to be treated with a high quality timber treatment once it is installed, the dip treatment applied in the factory will not last long. Once installed your fence panel will require an annual treatment of wood protector.

Timber treatment protects the wood from water damage, water damage can lead to timber rot which weakens the wood and destroys it. Applying a timber treatment annually will prevent damage and make your timber fence last longer.

Pressure treated fence panels have been specially manufactured and treated. The timber panels are placed inside a vacuum, once inside a special timber treatment chemical is pumped deep inside the grain of the wood. This acts in the same way timber treatment paint works and protects the wood from water damage and wood rot. Pressure treated fence panels do not require an annual treatment so are much easier to maintain.

Manteca is an important factor to consider when deciding what fence panel to choose. Spending a bit more money choosing pressure treated panels could save you money in the future.

After you have decided what treatment and height fence suits your property the most you concentrate on the style of fencing. Traditional styles are still very popular today in many gardens; the overlap fence panel is still one of the most popular styles.

Overlap fence panels are made from overlapping timber, this forms natural, rustic panel. Overlap fence panels are inexpensive and are great for fencing a larger garden.

There are also more decorative styles of fence panel available which are perfect for adding style and uniqueness to your garden. Most decorative panels are pressure treated, this helps make maintenance easy and also means the panels are going to have a long lifespan.

Garden fencing is a common feature in most gardens and has a very practical use. Choosing the right garden fence panels for your garden can change the whole look of your garden. So if you want to add style, security and privacy to your garden add new garden fencing.
